Tackling the Recycling & Sustainability Problem

With over 300,000 tonnes of textiles ending up in Landfill in the UK alone and nearly 20% of the world’s water waste being produced by the fashion industry, retailers are under more pressure than ever to look for sustainable business models. PLG is supporting retailers to implement sustainable, circular business models, that minimise disruption and do not break the bank. Rather, our unique processing methods, global reach and tech-first solution ensure retailers are able to manage their returns and terminal stock in a way that is both commercially savvy and good for the environment. Our Returns+ solution uses data science, machine learning, coupled with a global network of charity and recommerce partners to ensure each item finds its best pathway.

  • We Help Retailers To:

    • Reduce Waste & Salvage Value

Through centralising all returned and excess stock in our warehouse and leveraging our machine learning capabilities, we are able to guarantee unit-level accountability, ensuring each item is routed to its optimal path, avoiding unnecessary shipping and re-packaging.
    • Increase Transparency & Drive Efficiency

Our data-driven platform gives retailers unit-level data on where each item ends up in the supply chain, including recommerce routes, charity donations and recycling. Through prioritising returning high-quality items to store (and providing the metadata to support), PLG’s Returns+ solution helps retailers to prioritise resource maximisation, making their reverse supply chain as efficient as possible.
    • Close the Loop

With the ever-increasing pressure on retailers to adopt sustainable business models, more attention is being paid on the reverse supply chain than ever before. PLG’s Returns+ solution aids retailers to move away from a traditional linear approach to managing stock, towards a circular approach that prioritises returning saleable items to store, recommerce and item restoration, and charity donations and recycling.

    • Step 1

Material profiled and determined no longer fit for resale through traditional distribution channels (e.g. due to product contamination, health and safety regulations or damage beyond repair).

    • Step 2

Material is physically sorted at our in-house recycling plant, segregated by material composition and colour.

    • Step 3

Mechanical Processing of Materials (Tearing and Granulating Processes).

    • Step 4

Raw Materials produced - ready for new product creation - in collaboration with retailer or brand partner.
